A 31-year-old Ukrainian man, Yurii Dudek, was sentenced to six months in prison for careless driving that caused the stillbirth of a 31-week-old unborn child in a January 2024 crash on Ireland’s N25 road.
The collision, which occurred while Dudek was delivering humanitarian aid, involved a van rear-ending another vehicle, which then struck a car occupied by pregnant woman Saoirse Aylward, who underwent an emergency C-section.
Though Dudek pleaded guilty, showed remorse, and had no prior record, a custodial sentence was deemed necessary.
