Former CNN anchor Don Lemon was arrested at his Los Angeles hotel by about a dozen federal agents last week despite his attorney informing authorities he would voluntarily surrender.
Lemon, who was covering a January 18 protest at a Minnesota church, said agents detained him without showing a warrant until displaying it on a phone, held him at a federal courthouse for over 13 hours, and denied him immediate phone access.
He maintained he was a journalist, not a protester, and plans to plead not guilty to federal civil rights charges tied to the protest, which involved allegations of conspiracy and interfering with First Amendment rights.
