Congress demands answers from Amit Shah on unkept promises to Assam’s tea workers and tribes after 12 years.
Congress leader Pawan Khera criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah over unfulfilled promises to Assam’s tea gardeners and tribal communities, questioning the delay in granting Scheduled Tribe status to six groups and implementing a Minimum Support Price for tea, despite commitments made over a decade ago.
Khera challenged Shah to explain why these pledges remain unmet after 12 years, following Shah’s rally in Dibrugarh where he highlighted the India-EU Free Trade Agreement as a benefit enabling tariff-free access to 27 EU countries for Assam tea.
Khera also accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of deflecting attention from alleged corruption, including the transfer of 150,000 acres of tribal land, by accusing Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi of links to Pakistan, a claim based on a Special Investigation Team report.
