The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has proposed requiring Google to let news publishers and content creators opt out of having their material used to train AI Overviews, aiming to address concerns that these AI summaries reduce traffic to original articles.

The CMA also wants Google to improve transparency, fairly rank search results, properly credit sources, and make it easier for users to switch default search engines by requiring choice screens on Android and Chrome.
