Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared the state free from extreme poverty on State Formation Day, November 1, 2025, calling it a historic milestone and the "dawn of a new era."

He stated that Kerala is the first Indian state to achieve this, fulfilling a 2021 election promise through a government-led initiative launched in the first cabinet meeting after the election.
