The Jebum-gang Lha-khang Temple in Lhasa, a 200-year-old Tibetan Buddhist site with Qing Dynasty murals, has been restored into a modern art center in China’s Xizang Autonomous Region.
Over five years, architect Xia Yujun’s team preserved its original circular design, ancient pillars, verandas, and artwork while adding hidden infrastructure, a three-layer waterproofing system, and museum-grade lighting to protect the murals.
The renovation maintained the temple’s immersive sensory atmosphere and now hosts contemporary art, aiming to engage younger generations in cultural preservation and highlight architectural heritage conservation in Xizang.
