A new Ipsos survey for the Toronto Star, conducted October 10–14, 2025, finds 83% of Canadians support a “Buy Canadian” rule for federal government advertising, aiming to redirect more of the $100 million annual ad budget to Canadian-owned media.

The measure is backed across all provinces and age groups, with 85% also believing it’s increasingly important to support an independent press that reflects Canada’s unique narrative.
