Indonesia launches eight waste-to-energy plants in late October to reduce waste, cut emissions, and generate clean power.
Indonesia will launch eight waste-to-energy plants in late October, part of a national plan to build 33 such facilities, each processing 1,000 tonnes of waste daily and costing up to 3 trillion rupiah.
The projects, managed by sovereign wealth fund Danantara, aim to tackle the country’s waste crisis—where only 60% of 35 million tonnes of annual waste is managed—while generating up to 15 megawatts of electricity per plant, cutting greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%, and reducing landfill use by 90%.
The initiative supports Indonesia’s renewable energy and sustainability goals.
