The UK's energy regulator, Ofgem, plans to introduce new rules allowing consumers to claim £40 compensation for delayed smart meter installations or faulty meters not fixed within 90 days.

The changes, set to take effect in early 2026, aim to improve smart meter standards and ensure better service, with over 600,000 faulty meters already repaired or replaced since July 2021.
